Longing for Iceland
Longing for Iceland
I’ve only been to a few places on Earth that instantly felt like home—the kind of place that pulls at your heart from thousands of miles away. A recent cold snap here in Colorado had me daydreaming about Iceland’s signature climate: needing a heavy jacket the second you step into the shade, breeze, or drizzle, only to feel the chill dissipate the moment you step into the sun.
The beauty over there is jaw-dropping around literally every corner—rugged, raw, and completely spellbinding. (Plus, the fish were cooperatively feisty and well fed.)
My favorite moment from the last trip came courtesy of a heavyweight Arctic Char that decided to snap my line above my indicator (aka my very fancy bobber). Sindri—one of the founders of Fish Partner and an absolute gem of a human—didn't even blink. He went full-on ninja-mode through the water to stalk the fish, and hand-line him directly into the net so we could safely remove the hook. It was way more impressive in person than I can capture in writing, but picture high-stakes underwater espionage and you’re about halfway there. FYI- Sarah and I will be organizing another trip to Iceland soon. Reach out to join us, if Iceland is on your bucket list.
